Holistic psychotherapy for anxiety and depression in Grayslake, IL
Calm your body, clear the anxious static, and find yourself again with therapy for burnout, anxiety, and depression.
Is this familiar?
You feel overwhelmed, frustrated, burned out. Anxiety is just the status quo–you wake up with that buzzing in your chest, still exhausted. You check the calendar, feeling a rising panic that is always just below the surface, anxiety about what you might have forgotten to add to that calendar–because if you don’t remember, no one will. And, then what?
It feels like you’re on a treadmill that has picked up speed, and you are afraid to step off. Holistic therapy will help you slow it down. We will look at how you got here and create a plan for shifting from the isolation, resentment, and burnout you are feeling to a place of peace. You will learn how to recognize and choose to honor your own needs, not just those of everyone around you.
Overfunctioning leads to burnout. Therapy for anxiety and burnout in Grayslake, IL can help if:
🗸 You feel burned out, depleted, resentful.
🗸 No one asked you to do it all–mostly, you volunteer. You take over because you know you'll do it well, and you assume no one else will do it at all–let alone, the “right” way.
🗸 Perhaps you grew up in a home where this was true, where you had to take over because no one else was taking care of you or anything else.
🗸 Or perhaps you pitched in to help an overwhelmed mother and got praised for it. For being so helpful, so mature.
🗸 Girls like you thrive on that. But the message can become: this is what makes you valuable. So it becomes what you strive for. It becomes who you are.
🗸 You are more and more anxious. Or maybe you aren’t aware of it as anxiety, but you do feel the burnout: trapped, numb, disconnected.
🗸 You might even have developed some physical symptoms. Your fuse is shorter.
🗸 You feel like there is no way out, because if you set it down, everything will fall apart.
Meet Susan Love, an anxiety and depression therapist in Grayslake, IL
Hi, I’m Susan. I am a holistic psychotherapist in private practice in Grayslake, Illinois. I help women who have spent years being the strong one for everyone else. They’re always holding it together, putting themselves last, and they don’t know how to stop. I help them sort out why and how it came to this, and how to change the patterns. For over 25 years, I've helped women with anxiety, burnout, trauma, and depression begin to feel calm in their bodies, and find clarity and courage to face decisions or life transitions that have had them overthinking and procrastinating. My approach is holistic, addressing the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of my clients' lives. I use a trauma-informed holistic approach that utilizes somatic techniques, talk therapy, breathwork and mindfulness.

The women I work with are often quite competent and used to handling a lot on their own. This can even be a point of pride. From the outside, it can look like they are just fine, even successful. Inside, they often feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from themselves.
They struggle with anxiety, chronic stress, and burnout. They may doubt and second-guess themselves. Many feel like they have lost the thread of their lives. They are looking for help to calm their nervous system, regain confidence and clarity, and begin to reconnect with themselves.

I am considered an “out of network” mental health care provider. Working out-of-network allows us to focus on what’s best for you, not what insurance thinks is best! This includes no limitations on the number of sessions, and complete confidentiality without the need to share diagnosis or notes with an insurance company. Therapy can unfold at a pace that fits your needs, rather than feeling rushed. This can create the opportunity for deeper, more meaningful work, unlimited by the need to demonstrate “medical necessity,” as is required by insurance
I’m happy to provide monthly superbills for clients who have out-of-network benefits and would like to explore reimbursement options with their insurance provider.

Currently, I only see clients virtually. Research has shown that virtual therapy with the right person can be just as effective as in-person therapy. My clients love not having to deal with traffic, Chicago area winter weather, and the extra time it takes to drive to an office. They appreciate the flexibility of being able to do their session from their comfy couch, or from their office if they need a lunchtime appointment.

Yes! I offer a free 15 minute consultation so that you can get a feel for me and whether you might feel comfortable working together. We can do this by phone or video, whatever works!

In our first session together, we will go over your intake paperwork together, and talk more in depth about what you want to receive and achieve in therapy. I tailor therapy to what each client wants and needs, so it will be a collaborative relationship. In the first session, and really the first few sessions, you will be sharing what feels important from your life so far. I will ask you questions to make sure I understand what these experiences and relationships have meant to you, and we can start to see the patterns that have brought you to where you are. The most important thing from the first session, though, is that we will experience what it is like being together and working in this way. The very most important factor in successful therapy is the relationship between the client and therapist, so you need to feel like I am the “right” person for you!
