Simplicity Parenting ClassesUnderlying much of the dysfunction and unhappiness in the lives of families is the chronic stress of our modern lifestyle. When a child's life is simplified in the four areas of environment, scheduling, rhythm, and filtering out adult information, even behaviors severe enough to have been diagnosed as symptoms of a mental health disorder can lessen and even disappear. Removing the "too-muchness" of stuff, activities, and media input can clear the space for families to really connect with each other and for children to relax and reclaim their healthy individuality. The simple techniques in this approach can improve behavior, school performance, and relationships with parents, teachers, and peers. It also forms an excellent foundation for any additional mental health interventions that may be needed for some children by clearing out the distractions and stress that can exacerbate symptoms and impede progress. This class is based on the book Simplicity Parenting, by Kim John Payne. In 7 sessions, you will learn to clear out space in your home and your schedule to make more time and opportunity to connect with and enjoy your children. Classes are facilitated by Susan and held in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Cost is $185 per person or $285 per couple. Please contact Susan for the most current schedule. |
Connection Parenting ClassesA 7-week series for parents who would like to create strong, loving bonds with their children, regardless of age. Based on Pam Leo's book, Connection Parenting, this course gets to the heart of what it takes for children to thrive and be happy and healthy. As Pam points out, "parents are always doing the best they can with the information, resources, and support they have at any given moment. It is never too late to create a stronger connection with our children." Come learn how to decode your child's behavior and respond to their needs, instead of react to their behaviors. This series will be geared toward toddlers through pre-teens. What is "Connection Parenting"? Pam Leo, the originator of the term, says it best: "The model of parenting most of us grew up with was authoritarian parenting, which is based on fear. Some of us may have grown up with permissive parenting, which is also based on fear. Authoritarian parenting is based on the child's fear of losing the parent's love. Permissive parenting is based on the parent's fear of losing the child's love. Connection parenting is based on love instead of fear." Cost for this 7 session series is $185 per person or $285 per couple. Please contact Susan for the most current schedule. |
